May 28, 2020Graduate Will Apply Robotics Education to Study Computational Design in Germany
Kevin Saslawsky, who earned a bachelor of Architecture degree in May 2020, has been accepted into the Institute for Computational Design and Construction program at the University of Stuttgart in Stuttgart, Germany.
Contrived for students of various academic backgrounds, the blends engineering, construction and design to advance the computational processes of architecture to unlock greater design potential. Over the next two years, Saslawsky will expand upon his skills in computational design while learning about the applied foundations of parametric and algorithmic design.
“My interest in computational design began my third-year in Assistant Professor of Architecture Marshall Prado’s studio,†says Saslawsky. “After that, I continued to focus heavily on computational design and digital fabrication throughout the rest of my studies, and my passion for this field was solidified during my work on the UTK Filament Tower in the summer of 2019.â€
Although the ICD program is divided into two main fields of research, students will learn the design process of each. In addition to computational design development, Saslawsky will learn computer-controlled manufacturing with a concentration in robotics fabrication.
“With Prof. Prado’s experience in robotics fabrication serving as my guide, my passion for ‘making’ was fueled by the college and access to the Fab Lab,†explains Saslawsk. “The University of Stuttgart’s renowned reputation for computational design and methods of robotics fabrication was the reason I chose to apply to the ICD program.â€
Saslawsky is projected to begin the master’s program in fall 2020.
