September 30, 2016 UT Architecture Ranked in Top 10; 95% of Students Say “Well Prepared”

In Design Futures Council’s 2017 DesignIntelligence annual report, the in the ֲý is in the Top 25 of architecture schools for undergraduate students.

The architecture school ranked 10th among public universities—up three places from 2016—and 25th among public and private universities, an elevation of two places from the year before.

Among schools of architecture in the Southeastern Conference, UT ranked 2nd.

DesignIntelligence is considered by the design industry as the foremost source of rankings for design programs. The report is compiled annually by the Design Futures Council, whose research ranks undergraduate and graduate programs from the perspective of professional practice leaders with direct experience hiring and supervising the performance of recent architecture and design graduates. The report ranks architecture schools according to how they are preparing students for a future in the profession and designing a sustainable future.

“Our college just turned 50, and I cannot think of a more appropriate way to celebrate than with this recognition of hard work and our legacy of success,” said Scott Poole, dean. “The ranking is based on professional experience with our graduates, which is a true indicator that we’re doing good things in the ֲý.”

This marks the third time the college has been ranked in the DesignIntelligence report. In addition to the 2016 ranking, the college was ranked 20th in 2011 for preparing students for professional practice.

In addition to ranking design schools, Design Futures Council annually surveys students in design programs in accredited universities across the country. Of the UT School of Architecture students who responded, 95 percent believe they will be well prepared for careers upon graduation.
