Alumni firms ranked top 50 fall 2018

Firms led by alumni of the college have placed in the 2018 Top 50 list as ranked by Architect, the journal of the AIA. Firms are scrutinized in three categories: Design, Sustainability and Business, and ranked overall. Congratulations to these firms and the alumni who lead them:

, a firm located in Memphis and led by two alumni earned 8th in design, 41st in sustainability and 30th overall. Barry Yoakum, FAIA, (BArch, ’78) is the principal-in-charge of vision and collaboration while Andrew Parks (MArch, ’04) is behind archimania’s architectural visualizations.

, headquartered in Nashville and founded by alumnus Jim Hastings (BArch, ’71), placed 1st in business, 37th in sustainability and 11th overall. Hastings’s team of 75 is led by UT alumni David Bailey (BArch, ’93), Chuck Gannaway (BArch, ’94) and William Hastings (BA Communications ’94).  According to Architect, the firm has experienced “double-digit growth in both revenue and staff size” over the past 10 years.

was ranked 9th in sustainability, 29th in design and 15th overall. Congratulations to Don Reynolds (’91 BArch), managing principal, and Dede Woodring (’80 BArch), managing principal, both in the firm’s Atlanta office.  Reynolds also is a member of the School of Architecture’s Advocacy Board.

The firm, , placed 14th in design.  Founded by alumnus Josh Shelton (BArch ’95) and David Dowell, the firm is an integrated architecture, urban design, curatorial, education and fabrication practice in Kansas City, Missouri.

In addition, was ranked 9th overall, 15th in sustainability, 16th in design and 49th in business. The college partners with SOM in the UT-ORNL Governor’s Chair for Energy + Urbanism, led by consulting partner of urban design and planning, Phil Enquist. Enquist also serves as a member of the Dean’s Advocacy Board.  Keith Boswell, SOM technical partner, is a 1980 graduate from our School of Architecture.
