Barnes’s lecture titled “A Children’s Story: Architecture as Narrative,” will discuss the porch’s role in shaping a narrative. According to Barnes, “the porch is one of the most recognizable symbols in the history of the traditional American home.” He will expand on the porch’s role in shaping the stories of those who utilize this piece of a home.
Barnes is the director of , a practice focused on physical and theoretical investigations of architecture’ role in social and political spheres. His designs and research have been published and exhibited nationally and internationally, including The Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts, The New York Times, DesignMIAMI/ Art Basel, Architect Magazine, Curbed.com and The National Museum of African American History.
This lecture is funded by the Robert B. Church Memorial Lecture fund.
Unless otherwise noted, lectures begin at 5:30 p.m. in Rm. 109/McCarty Auditorium in the Art + Architecture Building, 1715 Volunteer Blvd. All are welcome.
