Lecture: Micah Rutenberg
April 2, 2018 @ 1:30 pm
No costJoin us for a public lecture by  Micah Rutenberg, Architecture Fellow at the  on Monday, April 2, 2018.
Rutenberg plans to focus on Dolly Parton Parkway; a stretch of road that connects Exit 407 on I-40 to Great Smoky Mountains National Park, passing through Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, and Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Using a Techno-Scientific Petting Zoo as a conceptual construct and metaphor, this talk will connect the specificity of Dolly Parton Parkway to its emergence as a virtual place and exemplary anthropogenic urbanism in which technology, nature, and culture become inextricably intertwined.
Micah Rutenberg is the 2017-2018 Tennessee Architecture Fellow at the University of Tennessee ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ and co-founder of StudioMARS, a speculative design practice. His design research navigates the complex conceptual entanglements between digital culture, technology, representation, and material practices within the built environment. He was formerly an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Woodbury University and Visiting Professor at Arizona State University. He holds a Bachelor of Science, Master of Architecture and Master of Science in Design Research from the University of Michigan.
Unless otherwise noted, all lectures begin at 5:30 p.m. in Rm. 109/McCarty Auditorium in the Art + Architecture Building, 1715 Volunteer Blvd. All are welcome.
